We worked with lead teachers from a number of primary and secondary schools at the Wellsway Academy to introduce coaching as a tool for support and development. The focus was on assisting NQTs, but the techniques and methods used were applicable in all aspects of school life.
Over three twilight sessions we used listening, language and questioning to get the most out of conversation throughout the day and demonstrate the principles of supportive, collaborative communication. We used a number of strategies such as De Bono's hats, T-GROW and iStride to encourage people to think differently about their approaches to problems and others.
The course was primarily attended by middle and senior leadership, but even included a finance manager, because coaching can help anyone deal with challenging conversations, handle appraisals and move past blocks.
